Puget Sound Commercial Crab Advisory Group

The Puget Sound Commercial Crab Advisory Group (PSCCAG) advises the Department regarding the needs of the Puget Sound commercial crab fishery and actions that support continued sustainable and economically viable commercial fishing opportunities in Puget Sound. WDFW formed the PSCCAG to provide recommendations on annual season structure, in-season management, and coordination, and to facilitate two-way communication between the Department and the fishing industry, including both harvesters and buyers.

The PSCCAG is comprised of fifteen members representing active fishers, both license owners and lessees, and commercial buyers, exporters, or processors. The base PSCCAG membership is structured as follows:

  • Individuals from the primary ports or areas that the PS fishery operates in (8 seats).
    • Bellingham / Blaine (2)
    • Anacortes /La Conner / Oak Harbor (2)
    • S. Whidbey Island / Everett / Seattle Metro (2)
    • Olympic Peninsula (2)
  • An at-large seat to be filled by a commercial license holder or lessee (1).
  • A commercial license holder or lessee not affiliated with the Puget Sound Commercial Crab Association (1).
  • The current president of the Puget Sound Commercial Crab Association (1).
  • Representatives of the commercial buying, exporting, or processing industries, including limited-fish seller endorsement holders (3).
  • An at-large seat to be filled by an individual representing any portion of the commercial crab industry including harvesters, dealers, and other supporting industries (1).

PSCCAG membership may vary from the base structure depending on the available applicant pool.

Advisors are selected based on a suite of criteria including:

  • Experience and length of time in the state Puget Sound commercial Dungeness crab fishery.
  • Annual period of activity in the Puget Sound commercial Dungeness crab fishery.
  • Puget Sound commercial crab region(s) fished.
  • Primary port of operation during the fishery.
  • License ownership status (owner versus lessee).
  • Number of licenses owned/fished/leased.
  • Affiliation/membership with industry associations or other industry-oriented groups.
  • Dealer status (dealer license/fish seller’s endorsement).
